Blakiston Valley

Blakiston Valley

Most often done as part of the overnight backpacking trail, The Tamarack Trail, this hike is a long, gentle trail that follows Blakiston Creek into the Blakiston Valley. Begin at Red Rock Canyon, hiking past Blakiston Falls and view the spectacular falls from viewing platforms. The trail then meanders through sparse forest and across grassy avalanche slopes. The trail forks around Lone Mountain and begins to follow Lone Creek, until a final steeper climb up to an open part of the valley with views of the creek from above. Come to the junction for Twin Lakes to the north, Lone Lake to the south, and the South Kootenay Pass is located directly west. This is a major crossroads for many hiking trips beyond this trail.
