Lost Lake via Snowshoe Trail

One of three trails in the Park that can be biked and can accommodate side-by-side hiking.

This particular trail is one of a handful in Waterton that can either be hiked or biked. The trail itself was once a fire service road, and therefore is hard packed and easily traversable. It’s a long hike though – 18 km with an elevation gain of 350 meters (1,148 feet) so be prepared for a full day excursion. The trailhead is at Red Rock Canyon parking lot, and you’ll see the brilliant coloured formations along the way. There are several creeks along the way too, so you’re bound to get a bit wet. The trail follows the Bauerman Creek Valley and accesses remote areas of Waterton National Park. Eventually your will come to Snowshoe campground, as well as a major trail junction that connects with trails to Lost Lake, Castle River Divide, Twin Lakes, Blue Grouse Basin and Avion Ridge. Take the Lost Lake junction for 1.9 km and discover this small and beautiful mountain lake that sits just beneath the Continental Divide.
