One of the few mountain biking trails in Waterton, this old fire road is also major access for many other hiking trails in the Northeast corner of the Park. This easy hike follows the valley floor, crossing avalanche slopes and dried creek beds. Pass through thick forest and open meadows, with Bauerman creek trickling alongside in the valley bottom. Anderson Peak is an easy marker to the south, look for its pyramid shape to identify it. This was originally a road that serviced the Fire and Warden Cabin now know as Snowshoe Cabin, and the old road makes a great wide cycle and hiking trail. At 4.6 km you will pass the trail head for Goat Lake on the right, and then continue on the gentle slope up to the Snowshoe Cabin. This is a backcountry campsite, you can get your permit from the Parks Canada Visitor Centre. Enjoy a night in the wild before continuing on one of the many trails past this junction or return to the Red Rock Canyon area.
