Vimy Ridge/Peak rises abruptly from the flat plains as you enter Waterton Lakes National Park. This shows the dramatic story of the geological forces that unfolded and shaped Waterton over millions of years. Named after the historical WWI battle in Vimy France, where Canadian Troops were successful in conquering the Ridge, when other countries had failed to do so. This trail can be accessed from the Wishbone Trailhead hiking approximately 6.5 km to the Vimy Ridge/Peak junction. A shorter more convenient method is to arrange a boat shuttle with the local cruise company, cutting off the initial 6.5km’s. The trail ascends steeply to ‘Lions Head’ an iconic rock feature. Continue hiking up through subalpine meadows covered in wildflowers and trickling creeks. Once you have ascended into the alpine cirque, follow the faint trail which switchbacks to the saddle. A final push to the right will have you standing on top of Vimy Peak, with breathtaking views on all sides.
