Wall Lake is another amazing hike to enjoy while in Waterton, however it is technically not in Waterton. Akamina-Kishinena Provincial Park is located in the far southeast corner of British Columbia. To access this remote wilderness area, you could drive over 100 km by gravel road from B.C, or the more attractive option is to access it via Waterton. The trailhead can be found along the Akamina Parkway just prior to Cameron Lake, watch for the trail sign. Prepare to gain some quick elevation, as your first objective will be to climb Akamina Pass. Persevere for the first 1 km, afterwards the trail flattens and becomes a leisurely stroll. Soon thereafter you will pass the provincial border, and then the trail slightly descends. Continue following the trail as you pass by the Forum Lake junction, and eventually the campground. After crossing a number of streams, the hike continues through thick forests before transitioning to open meadows. You will emerge to a sight to behold, with Wall Lake sitting beneath a towering wall which rises thousands above. A perimeter trail wraps around the lake, offering many beaches and lake access. So go have a picnic, go for a swim or drop a hook into the lake and try fishing. (Wall Lake is popular for hiking, mountain biking, equestrian riding and cross country skiing, share the trail with all users.)
